During these trying times of Working From Home and maintaining a professional mindset, you can learn a lot about how your company, manager, and role is best positioned to be part of a modern post-COVID economy. 51 Weeks out of the year might have been going well but you learn most when the situation is testing people and pushing them to be who they are truly.
1. Learning About Your Company Although you need to have the key fundamentals about your own role and make sure that you are proficient and growing in it, you need to have a clear understanding of how your business makes money and where your industry going.
You might have been part of a very successful business that is now under serious pressure because it relies on traditional means of maintaining relationships and generating revenue.
Maybe it is time to develop digital solutions and services to create additional revenue streams for your business on social media or through a simple website.
2. Learning About Your Manager A manager should be in charge of monitoring and improving your performance regardless in the office or not. They should be establishing a clear schedule and communication channels to keep a sense of professionalism within the team.
That is what a good manager needs to do, but what about bad managers? The managers who couldn't perform in the office properly translate their poor performance into this period. They might have set unclear instructions, rarely contacting their team, and not maintaining a sense of normality.
Where your manager fits in this description probably is going to tell you a lot of how much they care about your professional development and maybe it is either a good time to stay or look around for other opportunities.
2. Learning About Your Role Your position is key to your company and integral to your industry such as HR or Finance but times are changing and innovations are needed.
If your role already requires a great deal of paper forms and in-person interaction in order to perform your role, you are not going to be here for very soon.
There are innovations happening across the world and throughout major industries that are making duties more digital and traditional roles redundant.
Take the time to look at solutions and services that can help setup your role for the future. For example, being at least aware of SQL systems for Marketers can bring real tangible value as marketing is moving towards channels that can quickly break down customer data to make the budget work harder.
