The financial effects of COVID-19 cannot be swept aside for most people.

It has affected family finances, job security, professional growth, and so much more.

If you were not comfortable talking about money with your partner, now is the time to address and overcome that discomfort so that both of you are on the same page and understand the current situation.

Here are a couple tips to help you get through this tough conversation to make your relationship stronger.

1. Focus On The Now

Discussing money and weakness are both incredibly sensitive and being uneasy is a natural thing but when it comes to you progressing in life with your partner in a more constructive way, you need to solve the now.

If the current situation is affecting your financial situation, it can only bring on stress and not addressing it will compound it.

Swallow your pride and be honest with your worries and see how both of you can manage the insecurity by managing your household spending.

Whether it is downsizing the house be cutting away unnecessary services or look to how to better one's skills so as to solidify one's position within the company.

2. Be Problem Solving & Flexible

Now is not the time to be close-minded and rigid.

When talking about your financial concerns as well as hearing your partner's worries, have a flexible and growth mindset where you focus on the solution rather than the problem.

Don't focus on the issue that your partner doesn't have enough emergency funds or that their job security isn't strong.

Move past it and focus on solutions that most effectively address the problem such as suggesting a side hustle or taking a online course.

It is not her battle or his battle that they deal by themselves, it is your war together.

If you don't see it as a collective task then maybe relook at your relationship, not your finances.

3. Be Comfortable Sacrificing

This is not the time for looking for the trendiest place to eat at or a new couch for your home.

This is the time for looking at how to manage your time and energy to solutions that directly address your financial stress.

Treat stress like debt. Don't Let It Compound.

Organise your weekends to be productive and efficient by researching ways for you to increase income and lower spending.

This could be a time to look at how you can start your own business or maybe you look at webinars that help you understand digital systems more clearly.
