Something that is happening across many industries is that the economic pressure on businesses are forcing managers to ask their employees to go beyond their professional responsibilities and support other teams and perform ad-hoc tasks.
It is not technically within your remit and therefore the easiest option for you is probably to be negative towards the task.
But what does this solve? What is the outcome of you being negative?
A job not done?, somebody else doing the task?, or maybe you go through it in a grumpy way?
Maybe try looking at it in a positive mindset.
Look at the things this may be able to teach you to make you a more valuable employee and professional.
Maybe you are a designer that wants to focus on building your core skills but you are forced to perform more account management tasks. This will teach you not only how to better manage clients which will make you a better freelancer but be clearer about the client's end goal rather than it come second hand.
Maybe you work in either Finance or Human Resources but asked to support webinar organisation or business development. This might give you the frontline exposure that could help you understand the business better as well as network with colleagues that you might otherwise never meet.
My point is that there is a situation happening right now that forces you to go beyond your comfort zone and it is about how you react towards it.
You can either be a negative Nancy and bubble your way through it or you can look at it as an opportunity to learn more and better yourself.
All you need is one chance to learn about a department or role so take this time to learn more about your company.
